Earlier this summer, United were in search of a new head coach who could replace Ten Hag at the helm following a disappointing 2023-24 Premier League campaign, however, the Dutch manager eventually put pen to paper on a new deal which extended his stay at Old Trafford until June 2026.

The Red Devils explored several options including Thomas Tuchel and former England boss Gareth Southgate. BILD now claims that the Premier League giants had a concrete interest in roping in Stuttgart boss Sebastian Hoeness, who guided the club to a second-place finish above Bayern Munich in the 2023-24 campaign.

The report also claims that while Hoeness was flattered by the offer of a club of the Red Devils' stature, he politely rejected it as he wanted to honour his Stuttgart contract which is valid until 2027. He has a special bond with the Bundesliga side as his father Dietar won the German championship with Stuttgart in 1992.
