The January transfer window is almost upon us and that means that it’s time to start speculating about what Leeds United are going to do.
Victor Orta has previously said that it’s going to be a quiet window for the Whites, but Phil Hay has recently stated that United could look to strengthen three areas.
The journalist reckons that Leeds might go for a striker, a winger and a goalkeeper next month, but he’s now stated that one position won’t be bolstered in the coming weeks.
What’s been said then?
The reporter was hosting a Q&A session on The Atheltic after Leeds’ 5-4 win against Birmingham City.
One supporter asked him: “we’ve got an imaginary 5 million spare to spend. What does Bielsa do with it?” Hay replied with the following:
“Should they go for a centre mid? I know that they won’t, but there’s not the same sense of control at the moment. Forshaw surely can’t be far away now though.”
More pressing matters
If Leeds are to dip into the transfer window next month there are seemingly more pressing matters to attend to rather than signing another midfielder.
It’s really tough to pick holes in a team that are nine points clear of third place and currently sit at the top of the Championship, but if you had to you’d have to say that Leeds need a bit more depth up front or at centre-back.
Reports have emerged that Eddie Nketiah is set to be recalled so it would be alarming if Leeds didn’t target another senior forward. If the 20-year-old departs then Patrick Bamford will be their only viable option with few options behind him.
As for the defence, Gaetano Berardi is the only senior back-up to Ben White and Liam Cooper.
Leeds’ FFP situation is rather precarious, and they can’t spend all that much this winter, but if they are to bring anyone in their top priority shouldn’t be in the midfield.
In other news, Leeds fans have been slamming one of their players.
