George Dobson was one of Jack Ross’ last signings back in the summer and the midfielder is beginning to show exactly why he was brought to the Stadium of Light.
It has taken a little period of adjustment since his move from Walsall in the summer, but his display against Southend showed that he is getting used to the level of expectation in playing for a big club – achieving a rating of 7/10 from Roker Report.
He looked more settled alongside Max Power in the middle of the pitch and kept things ticking over with a 83% pass accuracy, and it was clearly something that didn’t go unnoticed by fans.
Some supporters have acknowledged his good showing against the Shrimpers and are encouraged by what he could offer in the future, but there are still a few doubters amongst the fanbase.
There are a few who question what he brings to the side, with one pointing out a lack of creativity which exists by having both him and Power in the side, and in fairness that is reflected by the Wearside outfit’s return of 22 goals in 15 games.
Here are some of the reactions which show contrasting views of Sunderland’s number 18.
