Mauricio Pochettino’s cousin has urged him to leave Tottenham Hotspur and join Juventus, per TuttoJuve.
What’s the word?
The Spurs manager has guided the club to the Champions League final, where they will face Liverpool on June 1.
Juve have confirmed that Massimiliano Allegri will leave the club at the end of the season and Pochettino has, naturally, been touted as a potential target.
And his cousin, Daniele, who lives in Italy, has told the Argentine to leave north London and make the move to Turin.
He said: “In my opinion [Pochettino replacing Allegri] could be feasible, because Mauricio is a coach who has shown he knows how to work well and reaching the final with Tottenham is a clear example.
“If he plays it like he does all games, for me it’s the right year to win. I met him a few months ago, I met a very nice and helpful person.
“The Bianconeri’s goal is, of course, the Champions League and my cousin has all the useful qualities to be able to coach this club.
“Mauricio showed he had the right experience to be able to coach in Europe. With Tottenham, he was able to forge a group of individuals that was not so well known.
“Everyone in the family would like to see him at Juventus.”
Another twist
Pochettino’s future is sure to be the topic of much discussion this summer.
The Spurs boss has suggested that he could leave if the club win the Champions League and it is perhaps only natural that a team like Juve are being touted as a potential destination.
There are very few clubs that would be a genuine step up from Spurs, especially given their incredible run in Europe this season, but Juventus, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala, would be just that.
It is remarkable, however, that his family have involved themselves in the saga.
Daniele Pochettino’s intervention may not mean anything, ultimately, but this is another twist to a story that is likely to run and run.
Until Juventus eventually appoint another manager – Chelsea’s Maurizio Sarri has been listed as another potential target – Pochettino will continue to be linked.
