Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react after they discovered that in-form Bukayo Saka had been dropped from the starting XI to take on Everton.
The 18-year-old has shone in recent weeks for the Gunners, nut-megging Valentino Lazaro to provide an assist for Nicolas Pepe in the 4-0 win over Newcastle, while he supplied another great delivery for Alexandre Lacazette to score the only goal of the game against Olympiacos.
In total, the teenager had netted three goals while registering seven assists in all competitions this term before the Everton game, which is pretty impressive for such a young player.
However, Mikel Arteta saw fit to drop him when Everton travelled to the Emirates, replacing Saka with Sead Kolasinac.
Saka did actually end up on the pitch after just 18 minutes because of an injury to Kolasinac, and recorded yet another assist with a phenomenal cross onto the right foot of Eddie Nketiah.
Given how well the academy graduate has played recently, his exclusion from the XI naturally sparked a reaction from the Arsenal fans on Twitter.
Let’s see what they’ve been saying about Arteta’s decision…
To kick off the reaction, @TikaTakaConnor said that there’s no need to overplay the teenager and that Arteta’s decision to rotate his squad was a good one – this fan also added that Arsenal don’t need another Jack Wilshere situation.
Gooner James then agreed with that claim, saying that the Gunners need to protect these young players.
However, there were some fans who weren’t in agreement with Arteta over the decision to drop Saka.
AFCBeef called Arsenal a weird team after finding out that the No.77 had been dropped.
Suraj then said they were shocked to see the teenager excluded, although mentioned that they trust Arteta.
@ArsenalLatest then said that, while Saka being benched is disappointing to see, everyone has to remember that he’s still only 18.
Lastly, @AFCMet simply exclaimed that they can’t believe Saka didn’t start against Everton.
