According to Le 10 Sport, Chelsea are set to hijack a move for Manchester United target Serge Aurier.
What’s the Story?
Reports in France claim that Serge Aurier is guaranteed to leave Paris Saint Germain this summer, and Chelsea have now joined Manchester United in the race to sign the Ivorian international.
Having missed out on Danilo to Manchester City, Antonio Conte is keen to bolster his options at wing-back, and Aurier is seen as the perfect man for the role. It is thought that PSG would ask for around £27million for the 24-year-old, a fee that Manchester United and Chelsea are both willing to pay.
However, no transfer to England can proceed until Aurier’s ban from U.K. soil is lifted. The defender has an assault conviction on his record which currently prevents him from entering the United Kingdom.
How good was Aurier last season?
Valued at £12.75million by Transfermarkt, Aurier proved last season why he is the best full-back in Ligue 1, with another set of fantastic performances for PSG.
The 24-year-old was an asset defensively as well as going forward and excelled during his 32 appearances in all competitions.
Would Aurier be a good signing for Chelsea?
While the Ivorian has undeniable talent that would suit the wing-back role at Chelsea perfectly, his off-the-field issues directly conflict with Antonio Conte’s no nonsense attitude. Aurier is currently banned from entering the country and has a host of personal issues in his past. He would need to ensure that his ways have changed before Chelsea decide to sign him.
