Crystal Palace are close to completing a deal for former Sunderland goalkeeper Remi Matthews, as revealed by journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter.

They could now be set for a third summer signing in the form of 27-year-old Matthews, following a 15-word relay by Nixon.

Communicating to his large following on Twitter, The Sun reporter outlined: “Palace. Close to a deal for keeper Remi Matthews for cover. Free after leaving Sunderland”.
Confirming his free agent status after leaving the Black Cats, the 27-year-old is now set to offer cover to Eagles duo Vicente Guaita and Jack Butland at Selhurst Park should negotiations be ratified.

Upon reflection, Matthews looks like he would be a solid back-up addition to the Crystal Palace squad this summer.
Available for nothing and with with the experience of 138 senior club appearances, he will provide stable competition as a third-choice ‘keeper as well as aiding squad submissions by being a homegrown English player.
