Dundee United are hoping Rangers will buy Glen Kamara in January, rather than losing his services for free in the summer, according to reports in the Dundee Evening Standard.
What’s the latest?
Only a matter of days ago, Rangers were delighted to announce that Kamara, along with Jordan Jones, had agreed to sign pre-contracts with the Gers that will see the midfielders move to Ibrox in the summer.
Both players were set to remain at their current clubs until their existing contracts lapse. However, Dundee are now hoping Steven Gerrard will part ways with some of his budget in January to sign Kamara early.
The Finnish international has made 17 appearances in the Scottish Premiership so far this season, but Robbie Neilson believes he can cope without his services as the funds would allow him to strengthen his Terrors side.
The Dark Blues’ main priority in the negotiations would be to take his wages off their books, as he is one of the club’s highest earners.

Should Gerrard take the offer?
Gerrard clearly rates Kamara and feels that he will be a key member of his side when he joins in the summer, otherwise he would be wasting the club’s wage budget by bringing the former Arsenal academy member to Ibrox.
However, while the 23-year-old will be crucial in the future and in theory would boost Rangers’ title push, his arrival now could cause more issues within the squad than it would solve, having just brought Southampton’s Steven Davis back to Scotland on loan for the remainder of the season.
The 34-year-old joins a wealth of options for the former Liverpool captain to chose from, with Lassana Coulibaly, Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield regularly deployed in the centre, so adding yet another player to the mix could easily disrupt the rhythm and harmony of the team.
Instead, utilising the available funds to strengthen his side further elsewhere should take precedence, having also brought Jermain Defoe to the club on an 18-month loan to support Alfredo Morelos.
