According to reports from Football Insider, Tottenham have submitted a bid for Jack Clarke that falls well below Leeds’ current valuation for the winger.
Previously it has been written that the Whites want £20m for the teenager.
In the weeks following that report, Phil Hay said that he thought it was unlikely that Spurs would pay what the Yorkshire outfit wanted, and for now, he has been proven right.
It’s unknown what the London club have offered for the youngster, but the bid was described as substantial in the Football Insider piece.
This, of course, begs the question as to how much Leeds should sell Clarke for?
It has been speculated that Marcelo Bielsa’s side will need to sell before they buy this summer, and they need to get as much as they can for Clarke without deterring any potential suitors.
Football FanCast’s writers have had their say on what they think he should be valued at.
Matt Dawson
“It’s difficult to work out what would be the correct fee for Clarke but the fact Leeds are demanding £20m for a player who scored just twice last season is a little baffling. Yes he has potential and they don’t really need to sell but if Spurs were to pay that Leeds would be absolutely robbing them. In the modern market I’d suggest a fee of £10m-£15m would be slightly more sensible. Manchester United recently paid £15m for Daniel James, a player who had considerably better stats, so anything more than that and it gets a bit ridiculous.”
Billy Meyers
“Leeds have an exciting, young English winger on their hands, and we all know the trend that comes with inflated valuations – Marcelo Bielsa’s side can basically charge whatever they want for Jack Clarke. Tottenham have their attentions on some mega-money deals with Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele and Real Betis star Giovani Lo Celso on their radar in moves that look set to cost them over £50m each at least, so Leeds should play on that as they clearly have a bit of cash on them having not made a signing for two windows. Bielsa’s promotion hopefuls hold all of the power in this transfer saga.”
Ben Goodwin
“Personally I think any fee that breaches eight figures is acceptable for a player with so little top-level experience. However, given the Whites’ history of giving up star prospects only to see them blossom elsewhere, the club should be looking to get an absolute minimum of £15m for Clarke. Anything less will dampen spirits amongst fans and heap even more pressure on Victor Orta and Andrea Radrizzani to get everything perfect in the summer window.”
