As reported by Brazilian outlet UOL, Liverpool are battling with Chelsea and Arsenal in an effort to sign Shakhtar Donetsk winger Bernard.
What’s the story?
Liverpool’s attack are hitting top gear in the English Premier League but that doesn’t mean Jurgen Klopp can’t add quality and depth in the January transfer window. It’s a long old season and if the Reds are to compete for honours come the end of the campaign, they need a strong squad full of talent ready to perform to a high level.
One player that seems to be interesting them is Shakhtar Donetsk winger Bernard, according to UOL.
The report says that Liverpool are competing with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea for his signature, with his contract due to expire at the Ukrainian club next summer.
The outlet reckons he wants to stay in Europe and valued at £11.5m, could be a prime target for Premier League sides.
Who is he?
A Brazilian international, Bernard has been performing to a high standard for Shakhtar Donetsk for over four years now.
He’s started this season in excellent form, scoring six goals and providing one assist in 17 matches. Two of those goals have come in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League, showing he has the quality to make an impact at the highest level.
A left winger primarily, he could add real depth to the Reds’ flank, providing cover for the likes of Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho.
With his contract expiring, it could be the perfect time to make their move and add an elite player to the squad for a fair price.
