Los Blancos started the controversy on Thursday after releasing a video on their club TV channel, accusing Bengoechea of bias against the club. The package cited Barca's superior winning percentage in matches officiated by the veteran ref as cause for suspicion. The club requested to replace the officiating team, though have tempered talk of a boycott. Bengoechea responded to the video in a press conference, and revealed his son had been subjected to bullying due to the situation.
WHAT HANSI FLICK SAID
Flick said: "For me, it’s just sport, it’s just football. We have to protect everyone involved in the game. The fans, they all want to see the players, how they play. We need the referees, and we have to look after them and be careful. It’s not fair play not to look after them, it’s not showing them respect."
