Arsene Wenger intends to remain as a manager if he leaves Arsenal this summer and is eyeing a position with Real Madrid, The Telegraph claim.
What’s the word?
Arsene Wenger has a two-year extension on the table at Arsenal but it remains to be seen if the Frenchman will add to his 21-years in North London, following another disappointing campaign at the Emirates Stadium this term.
The Gunners, runners-up in the Premier League last year, have failed to build on that campaign and face a major battle to land a top-four finish- whilst they’re staring down the barrel of another early exit from the Champions League after a 5-1 defeat to Bayern Munich.
Should Wenger leave, he does not intend to call it quits on his management career and will also not eye a bumper pay-day in China- as he has his sights set on the Real Madrid job.
Could it happen?
If Arsene Wenger was to leave Arsenal, it would extremely unlikely that he would become manager of Real Madrid- mostly because current boss Zinedine Zidane has silenced his critics by winning the Champions League last season and leading the charge in La Liga this term.
There’s little pressure on Zidane currently, with Los Blancos also on-course for the quarter-finals of the Champions League following a 3-1 first-leg victory over Napoli, so the chances of a position opening up for Wenger are extremely slim.
At the moment, it seems the most likely club to have Wenger in charge next season will still be Arsenal- which may upset a large chunk of supporters.
